Cheap PVC double glazed windows turn yellow because the PVC, also known as UPVC or PVCU has been mixed with metallic stabilizers such as lead, tin and cadmium and also packed with fillers such as chalk.
These cheap PVC mixes are all about reducing costs to produce more windows and doors using as little pure PVC as possible.
These bulked up PVC units are not particularly smooth and will have a chalky residue when you wipe your fingers on them. Given the surface is not smooth you end up with a rough surface that holds ingrained dirt that is impossible to remove effectively. You will also discover companies that install cheap impure PVC also tend to use cheap mastic which will crack, discolour and support mold growth.
The only sensible solution is to replace the windows with windows made from virgin grade calcium organic PVC which is the best quality grade available that will have a 20 year colour fast guarantee when you opt for white.
The more crude and considerably less effective option is to paint the windows with PVC paint. Painted PVC looks horrific if painted on by brush and only slightly better if sprayed on. Painting cheap PVC pretty much defeats the purpose of having PVC windows however may be an option if replacement is not an option due to finances.
These cheap PVC windows which are not recyclable will be banned by 2015 therefore it is very much false economy to buy these types of windows if you ever plan to sell your house after 2015 as you may be forced to either significantly drop your price or replace your double glazed windows with legal PVC double glazing.
